About Me

I started this blog as a declaration of independence from the conformities that LiveJournal imposed on its users, but in the year since I started it (has it really only been a year?) it has turned into so much more.
The name “Perpetual Smile” comes from my childhood dreams of starting a rock band. My cousin Katelyn always insisted on using the name Black Noise, but Perpetual Smile popped into my head one day and has stuck there ever since. I’m not always positive or sunny, and I don’t wear a creepy Joker smile all the time. It’s just a reminder to me that there is always a bright side. Maybe.
I write about amusing things that happen to me — trust me, the weirdest stuff happens to me — and the not so amusing things (which are usually pretty weird, too). I have a cat but I don’t write about her much. (That screams weirdo, to me anyway.) I also write about thoughts that occur to me. I’m a thinker and I like to share the interesting things that come to mind throughout my day.
Occasionally I post poetry or short stories that I’ve written. These are usually in raw form, as my work is constantly in progress. In my free time, I write with my friend Mary about a slacker named Dante and his pink-haired girlfriend Astrid. This is informal roleplaying at its best, and we love getting feedback about these two.
A little over two years ago, my world tipped upside down when I experienced the first episode of what would be a very long battle with chronic pain. I typically write about my struggle with my pain and my resulting depression. I have yet to be diagnosed with a cause for my pain. I’ve decided it’s the Elizabeth Disease. You have to be young, nerdy, and named Elizabeth to get it.
I am a full-time web designer, with an A.S. in Multimedia/Web Authoring. My current, just-for-fun project is Freaking Bookworm, an online book club for people who want to participate at their own pace. In my very rare free time, I write novels that may never be finished and play Sims 2.
